Bangladesh: Survey of Mandari village, Lakshmipur

A rapid hydrochemical survey of the mouza (village) of Mandari in Lakshmipur District was carried out during November 1999. The purpose of the survey was:

  • to see the extent to which groundwater chemistry, including arsenic, varied at the village scale
  • to establish the feasibility of carrying out rapid village-level surveys for arsenic using the Arsenator

We also wanted to produce reasonably accurate village-scale maps of the results. Details of the sampling and analytical approaches are given in the final report (Chapter 8: A village survey: Mandari, Lakshmipur District).

In the following maps, triangles are used for deep wells (>150 m deep). The colours for these triangles follow those for the circles given in the legend. Maps showing sample numbers and well depth are also available.

The maps are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format, each file is less than 200 kB.
