Planet Earth

The Geological Survey of Ireland, with the support of the Royal Irish Academy, established an All-Island Committee for IYPE which is broadly representative of geoscience across the island of Ireland. 2007 was spent planning a series of attractive events, including a series of public lectures, Planet Earth Walks & Talks, a Planet Earth TV series, schools products, competitions, conference exhibits and much, much more. This website will serve as the main information resource for the Year's activities.

Geological Survey of Ireland

The Geological Survey of Ireland, founded in 1845, is the National Earth Science Agency in Ireland. It is responsible for providing geological advice and information, and for the acquisition of data for this purpose. GSI produces a range of products including maps, reports and databases and acts as a knowledge centre and project partner in all aspects of Irish geology.

Environment and Heritage Service

EHS takes the lead in advising on, and in implementing, the Government's environmental policy and strategy in Northern Ireland. The Agency carries out a range of activities, which promote the Government's key themes of sustainable development, biodiversity and climate change. EHS aims to protect and conserve Northern Ireland's natural heritage and built environment, to control pollution and to promote the wider appreciation of the environment and best environmental practices.

The National Trust

The National Trust is a charity with 3.5 million members and 43,000 volunteers. It protects and opens to the public over 300 historic houses and gardens and 49 industrial monuments and mills. It also looks after forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, downs, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, castles, nature reserves and villages. Each year, more than 12 million people visit 'pay for entry properties', while an estimated 50 million visit open air properties.

Earth Science Ireland

Earth Science 2000 (ES2K) was set up in September 2000 as a voluntary organisation aimed at promoting the Earth Sciences in the north of Ireland and as a co-ordinating body to focus the activity of a diverse range of organisations and interest groups. In 2003, ES2k members from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland endorsed a decision to expand the group's remit to cover the whole island of Ireland.
